Dangers Of Keyloggers?
Keyloggers are perhaps the most controversial programs used by both companies and as crime-ware alike. Keylogger is a program or even a hardware that is used to monitor the user’s activities, especially when he types on the keyboard. The creator of a keylogger is free to view the keystrokes that the user has typed in.
This activity is nothing short of any cyber crime unless if it is used by the company to monitor over its employees conduct with respect to online communication and mainly acts as a surveillance tool. This program is used by companies to ensure that its employees don’t waste work time on chatting and sending e-mails to family and friends.
With respect to keyloggers that harm the privacy of the user, they are known to record the login passwords, credit card details and other sensitive information and send them to the keylogger creator. The destruction that a company would face if its systems have a keylogger in it and the amount of loss of important data and consequent leaks is unimaginable. It is very easy for any keylogger to get into your computer system. It enters your computer just as a spyware does. That means, it might hide/disguise itself in the form of a browser or it may even be downloaded directly from any spyware website.
Since the keyloggers are adept in hiding or disguising themselves from the users, they are relatively difficult to remove. They don’t even display relevant signs that help in the detection of keyloggers, i.e., unlike adwares, they do not display any pop up ads and unlike spywares, they do not affect the normal course of your working with respect to affecting the computer speed and performance.
Moreover, it is impossible to find out what information they intend to collect and to whom the information is being sent. After the data is collected by the keylogger, the information is immediately sent to the keylogger creator. The creator then uses this data to do one or many of the following things:
- Gaining access to the user’s e-mail account and indulging in spam mails to everybody in the user’s mailing list. If the user is a businessman, there is a threat that he might lose all his contacts.
- Sell the user’s personal information to any third party, obviously without the user’s consent.
- And finally, commit the most malicious cyber crime, gaining access to the user’s online banking account and transfer all his funds to his or any other third party account.
Though getting rid of keyloggers is not that easy, using an anti spyware is the best to clean your system off keyloggers. Anti spywares like Max Secure and ParetoLogic serve the best for this purpose. Regular scanning combined with an effective firewall can ensure the safety of your computer from keyloggers.
